Why we built JobCost
JobCost started the way most construction businesses do: with a spreadsheet, a stack of receipts, and no idea which jobs actually made money. We watched job after job go sideways and only find out about it at month-end, when the numbers were already written and the crew was three projects away.
The problem was never the math. Job costing is simple addition and subtraction. The problem is doing it continuously, across every job, while the work is happening. That is a software problem, so we built the software.
What we believe
- The job is the unit of truth. Company-level profit hides which jobs paid for it. Every decision that matters happens at the job level.
- Real time is the whole point. A cost that arrives two weeks after the job is over cannot change anything. The budget has to move the day the money moves.
- The field and the office are one team. Software that keeps them out of sync is not software, it is paperwork with a login screen.
- No double entry, ever. If you enter a number twice, one of the two is wrong. Sync with the books is not a feature, it is table stakes.
Who is behind it
JobCost is a small, independent software company. We are operators and accountants by background, not a venture-backed platform trying to own every workflow. That means we stay focused on the one thing we do well: job costing that shows profit per job in real time. Our content is reviewed by a construction cost accountant and a project manager before it is published.
